One might ask, "Why pie as a metaphor?" The simple answer - it is
impossible to make a pie without using a little love. It is the most natural, essential ingredient in the art of pie making. Even more than the part that pleases the taste buds, love, the part that pleases the heart, is guaranteed
to make someone feel good.
Comfort Pie is all about making us feel good. We live in a complex world where the average family works hard to make ends meet, and where far
too many people endure chemotherapy and other challenging solutions
as a way as survival. Between the over-scheduling of our lives, and the concerns of our ever-changing world, we must find ways to sooth
ourselves and our loved ones.
July 5, 2005, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Out of necessity,
I began to think about what I could do to soothe my body and soul.
The first artful creation in my search for my piece of pie, my comfort,
was a CD called GLASS HALF FULL, Songs of Comfort & Hope,
which I produced actually while I was in chemotherapy. I wanted to create something that might help others in similar need of inspiration. $2 per CD
Another saving grace during my breast cancer treatment was The Food Network. Like many others undergoing chemotherapy, eating was difficult. So I ate my fill of all that Paula Deen, Rachel Ray, The Barefoot Contessa and their TV collegues had cooked for me. I felt warmly comforted during
a time when I needed it most. The Food Network had become my refuge. Paula Deen's kitchen had become my safe haven, my shelter in the storm.
As my treatments ended, and as I was recouperating in the warmth of my sister's Greek kitchen, I come up with the idea for Comfort Pie. I left it in
the oven on slow bake for a year. It became time to take it out, offer it to
you with love, and hope it brings you much comfort for your deserving soul.
Bon Appetite,
